Although we have hardly any situations where we need this for trout
fishing in Honshu and west, Hokkaido has many trout which take this gigantic
dry fly without hesitation.
Don't be afraid of drag of the fly because a dragged mouse looks really
realistic with the tail swinging. You can give some actions to the mouse
like lure fishing.
If you swing this fly across the current, this moves like a real.
Don't use a thin leader like 4x. Also excessive long leader won't do a
job. Basically we recommend a leader around 1x. Go big and bold.
Depending on your casting skill and situations, a rod over #5 is proper
to punch this fly out with comfort.
On a bigger river, swinging this mouse across the current looks like a
real one swimming on the surface.

本州以西では鱒相手にあまり使うことがありませんが、北海道では山奥などに行きますと、大変楽しい思いができる大型フライです。渓流では叩いていきますが、ナチュラルドリフトをそれほど追求する必要がありません。昆虫と違ってドラグが掛かった状態も魅力的だからです。ドラグが掛かると尻尾を振って反転したり、泳いだりします。もがいているネズミそのものです。
ゆっくりスイングして使うと、これまた本物のような動きを見せます。
４ｘのような軟弱なリーダーで使用しないでください。また必要以上のロングリーダーは向いていません。まず、ドラグを恐れる必要がない点、そして軟弱なリーダーではターンができません。基本的に１ｘ前後のリーダー、ティペットを使用して、大胆に攻めてください。
サイズやキャスティング技術によりますが、5番以上のロッドをお勧めします。
